In Loving Memory Of Jon Longworth

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our dear friend Jon Longworth, who left us peacefully at home on the night of September 11, 2024, at the age of 84. Jon’s warm heart will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, especially his cherished partner, Huy Ma.

Jon has been a part of the Asian/Pacific Gays and Friends (A/PGF) community since 1996, playing in various roles in our gatherings and celebrations. From hosting Movie/Potluck Nights to assisting with various events, Jon’s presence was always welcome. He delighted in playing cards, bowling and hiking whenever possible. He was a familiar and beloved sight at our annual 4th of July Picnic, often accompanied by his two dogs and with his portable grill, preparing his favorite dishes and engaging with friends.

In recent years, health challenges prevented Jon from attending events in person, but his support remained steadfast. Even during the pandemic, Jon’s positivity shone through our monthly Zoom calls, bringing laughter and warmth to our virtual gatherings.

Jon was known for his ability to make others smile with a well-placed joke. He once shared a touching post on his Facebook page that captures his essence beautifully:

“I dreamed death came the other night, and the heavenly gate swung wide, a kind face of an angel came and ushered me inside. And there to my astonishment stood folks I'd known on earth. Some I'd judged and called 'unfit' and some of little worth. Indignant words rose to my lips but never were set free, for every face showed stunned surprise, that no one expected me!”

This poignant reflection on acceptance and grace reflects the kindness and openness Jon embodied throughout his life.

As per Jon's wishes, he will be cremated. Condolences can be sent to his partner, Huy Ma at
oceanac2003@gmail.com  We invite all who knew and loved Jon to join us in celebrating his life and legacy.

Rest in peace, Jon. Your spirit will continue to inspire us, and your memory will forever live in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known you.
